Psychological Capital in Practice: For Coaching and Growth Conversations

CPD courses & hours for psychologists in Australia

Australian psychologists can boost client outcomes with Psychological Capital (PsyCap).

About this course in Australia

For Australian coaches, psychologists and counsellors, this course led by coaching psychologist Dr Katie Crabtree puts Psychological Capital into practice. It explains the HERO model, Hope, Efficacy, Resilience and Optimism, and how each of these psychological resources influences motivation, goal pursuit and the way people meet difficulty. Practical examples and reflective exercises show where opportunities arise in ordinary coaching and helping conversations to build each resource. Participants come away with approaches they can use straight away to support wellbeing, performance and goal attainment, and with ideas for weaving the HERO model into their own professional conversations.

In this talk, coaching psychologist Dr. Katie Crabtree introduces Psychological Capital (PsyCap) as a practical, evidence-informed framework for supporting growth, resilience, and performance in coaching and other helping conversations. Drawing on the HERO model — Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, and Optimism — participants will explore how these four psychological resources influence the way people respond to challenge, pursue goals, and sustain motivation.

Through practical examples and reflective activities, the talk demonstrates how coaches and other helping professionals can identify opportunities to strengthen each element of the HERO model within everyday conversations. Participants will leave with practical approaches they can immediately apply to help individuals build psychological resources that support sustainable change and wellbeing.
